I am about to start renting text link ads to help boost my ranking for a two-word key phrase (let’s call it “A Bâ€). My question is: Does adding more keywords to the end of my target key phrase limit the effectiveness of my target phrase at all? For example, my primary goal is to rank for “A B,†but if I can target “A B C†(or even “A B C D,†“C D A B,†“C A B Dâ€), without ‘diluting’ the efficacy of “A B," I would have to be crazy not to do that. It’s like killing two birds with one stone! The text link salesperson I spoke with told me that as long as the anchor text includes “A B†in it, the search engine ranking effectiveness is not ‘diluted,’ or decreased. I have a hard time accepting this because I know that google considers every successive keyword in page titles less relevant, so why wouldn’t it use similar logic with anchor text? I have a relatively small budget and my PRIMARY objective is to boost my rank for “A B.†Putting issues like natural linking profiles asides, is targeting anything besides “A B†going to be as effective??? I really appreciate any suggestions or advice. Thanks!
i think it matters. Previously when i anchor text using "apple banana orange", i was getting rank for it but not for "banana orange". However now that i anchor text using "banana orange", i have started to get ranked for it as well. So in my opinion, you need to be precise in the keyword that you want to target.
Thanks for the info! I had a feeling it had an effect but found it unusual that it has never been explicitly stated in traditional SEO material
