Does it even make sense being an affiliate these days?

I have been reading a lot recently and it kinda worries me to step deeper into the affiliate business especially if you are somehwat depending on googe adwords.

Googles new rules in terms of landing pages and quality scores seem insurmountable unless you build a very content-rich LP i suppose.

But squeeze pages and tacky LPs seem to have no chance at all in the future.

What is your opinion about this. I think you should read this great article before responding.

It seems like the days are count for most ebook sites, get rich sites and lose weight. I dont think it is a bad thing since most of these have no value at all, but still Google is even slapping many serious websites such as product and travel comparison websites.

I mean, any affiliate should read this article by searchengineland and create their own opinion.

Love to hear your guy's opinions?!

The article is 2.5 years old. PPC is hard enough as it is, but there are still people making a lot of money with affiliate marketing.

Well that is even worse. The questions is, how to make a landing page that provides a high quality score?

Those that are still doing ppc are for sure having a multi-branding strategy with high quality pages.

I think you will have to put in a lot of time to be successfull these days.

I definitley think that's the way it should be. It's going to force everyone to really think about what they are doing, instead of mindlessly building low quality (and generally useless) websites.

Exactly, and I (among the billions of other web surfers out there) am glad for it.

I don't think that affiliate marketing will die out, but I definitely wouldn't rely on scammy landing pages as a business model. As soon as these reach critical mass, Google ends up banning them. Remember how they banned all ads in the Acai weight loss and tooth whitening niches this year.

It's also not a good idea to put all your eggs in one basket, either. Don't just rely on affiliate income. If you have a successful website, broker other advertising deals or offer your services as a consultant in your professional area. It's much better to diversify if you want to make money online.

    Conflict of interest? How so?

Probably not and I think many will disagree as well. AM products are likely a very small percentage of the overall products available and being promoted online.

Disagree again. In my opinion, making my living managing PPC for others and the kinds of ads I see when searching, most don't know the secrets. Still lots for most people to learn and do things better. Also, lots of demand for my book as well as Perry Marshall's and sites like PPC Coach. It's an indication that there is a need and that people don't yet know all the secrets.

Now this I agree on. Although AMs have to pick their fights. Seems there is not enough diversity out there, all trying for the same products (all jumping on colon cleansing and acai berry kind of stuff).
