Does Internal Links affect the PR of a Page?

    Hello,

    Please clear my doubt...

If my site gets a backlink from a PR5 page that has too many internal links pointing to other pages present in that domain, will it degrade the pagerank score that is passed to my site?

    Thanks in Advance,:)

    sandeep,

any link will only pass a share of the PageRank available on a page. Its an inexact science but my view is that a link towards the top of a page will pass more PageRank than a link towards the bottom.

I think that will passes some pr juice to internal link as well and you'll get more benefit from pr 5 pr juice due to only 1 outgoing link.

The answer is yes. Too many OB's (outbound links) and it dilutes the PR passed to your site. So you should analyze any page linking to you, especially if it's a link exchange.

I don't see why there should be a difference between internal and external links .. If you can see what I mean ..

Also, if you check some tools like http://www.webmaster-toolkit.com/link-appeal.shtml
it will count all the links on a page as outbound links ..not making differnece between internal and external ....

    My point ............

As told by Matt Cutts, PR is divided among all the links on a page: I think PR will also divide is links are pointing to internal pages. If a link has nofollow tag, even that link reduces the PR juice that each link gets.

I have over 100 inner pages with PR3 or PR2, and many of them have few if any quality links coming from outside my site. They are deriving that good PR from the internal links to those pages from several of my PR4 pages.

So, to get back to the OP's original question, there's no doubt that PR is passed via internal linking. Beyond that, it's just a guess whether outbound and internal links pass an equal amount of PR. I suspect (just "suspect") that they do pass an equal amount.

I think more pagerank is passed to external links, it just seems the most logical way to do it from Google's perspective, because with internal links you are essentially giving a "vote" for your own webpage so it won't carry as much weight. So, when looking for a good page to get a link from, I'd be most concerned with the number of "external" links.

Every links absorb value of the link page. Thats why I do not add all the links in every pages. I add which is very much required there. Suppose, somebody drop in Service page so he/she might be interested in contact info. So I place contact page link there. And this way I optimize :)

Fair enough .. But it's a vote from any page to any other one, in the same domain or not .. I think that there is no difference as Prachi5webdev stated before ..
