Does installing link directory really helps ?

    Hi,

I am interested in installing a link directory on www.yahoofanclub.com something like Yahoo directory or google directory. I currently have an idea of using phpLD. But I got some question stopping me from installing it:

    1. Will it be helpful ? or will it decrease my ranking ?

    2. where do I install it on a directory like www. yahoofanclub .com / directory
or dir.yahoofanclub.com (I mean which url do search engines like)

    3. Is phpLD the best thing around to install a directory like yahoo dir or google dir.

    4. Any other suggestions ??

I am really interested in installing one, so please provide me your feedback. The development depends on all DP users suggestions.

Thanx in advance for suggestions :)

    Your welcome!
LOL!Honestly,I've no idea about other questions.

Either is okay IMO.As far as the directory is seo friendly, then SE's would like it. ;)

If you need help about phpld installation, let me know.

    HI there Richie_Ni,
thanx for the advice and about the directory installation. I can install phpLD myself easily. also I have a readymade category Database ( I found a link by doing a little search on DP) .... But do you know any place where I can get a category database of phpLD similiar to Yahoo Dir or Google dir.

and talking about the 2nd question:
Actually I am thinking of creating an easily remembered url for users and SEOed directory for Search Engines.

I'd say it depends on your goals: if you and to use this directory for link exchange , then it'll be pretty difficult to use it on a subdomain -- that subdomain will be treated by Google as a different website, so (usually) a subdomain will have lower PR, etc, so it could be difficult to make other webmasters to exchange links.

PS: and if you're going to use this link directory for link exchange, then I would suggest you NOT to use phpLD or any other popular script since it can be EASILY identified by Google (and who knows what can happen then... ;)) try using some link building tools that allow you to FULLY customize your link pages, and don't leave any footprints (usually they're desktop, and they don't use any scripts - they simply generate a set of HTML pages and upload them to your website)... just my two cents

IF you're simply developing a directory (i.e. placing one-way links), then Google has no reasons to penalize you; BUT IF you use it for link exchange, Google can easily see this, and simply *devalue* your reciprocal links (I'm pretty sure it won't penalize you - it CAN simply devalue your reciprocal links (though, as you understand, my name is not Matt Cutts, and I can be wrong about this ;)))

I ve installed dmoz copy and suprisingly google liiked it. After 10 days Ive got 2000 sites indexed with dmoz. I dont know what I can do with it but I have one directory. When It will get traffic I redirect people to my site by putting links in that directory

    Question #2

I would simply go with www.yoursite.com/directory

Although, I really doubt it matters.

The biggest problem you will have is coming up with a template that will match the rest of your site. You don't want to have someone click on the directory and they feel like they've gone to another site.

    Hi,

Am I reading you right, you got 2000 websites listed in DMOZ, (the real dmoz? ) in ten days when most, including me are looking at months to 3 years or so for a single web site?

    What's the trick?

    Thanks
    Donald.
