.info can rank just as well as any other tld. Just remember that it isnt the extension that makes a website, but it's content
The .info only indicates to those in the know that the site is cheap, it rather depends on your audience, if they have some reason to know the cost of domains then they will see its cheaper, but content still will be king for you ... really depends what type of site you are building
Exactly. Non-webmasters will probably not think of any difference (or negative connotation) with the extension. They will only see the content and that is what they will judge the site by.
dot info is considered to be one the main reason behind spam blogs which is why most of the info blogs are thought to be splogs. But yes definitely if you have content then it does matters in eyes of SERPS
Not much different. In some cases I think .info is better compare to .com because .info more easily to remember. Also, there is cheap.
I have found my .com's do seem to get indexed faster by google but in the end the .info's get indexed and then it's all about content etc...
We only run one .info site: http://www.tastythoughts.info and I can tell you that it gets indexed as often as any of our .coms
Thats very good information. When I'm looking for domains, I have steered clear of anything but .com. In the future, I'll definitely consider the others! Thx, jomark3
GoDaddy was having a 99cent .info sale -- so spammers buy them and build crap Web sites. You can still rank with a .info domain though. Spain.info is one example. .com, .net, and .org have the advantage that if you have an exact match with the keyword query and the domain name, you get a boost in Google. I don't know if you get that boost with .info (I doubt it).
I'd avoided .info's where I could too, but in the end I had to get them because they were cheaper and basically all that was left if I wanted to get certain names. Very good to know that info's will work as well as .com etc
Just so we are clear... they are not nearly as valuable if your plan is to sell a site. A good .com name is worth a ton more than a good .info. Also, if you are building a real company you have to own the .com name That is the only thing people will be looking for with your brand name.
just to go against the flow here, there is a problem with .info domains and thats that MSN isnt spidering them currently. Check the domains in my sig, you will see that the poker forum one has 1300+ pages indexed in google, and a PR3, yet MSN will not spider it. Furthermore if you try and add it to msn's index using their addurl service, it says that .info domains are "not valid" I started a thread about this some time ago, check through them for more info....
from a search engine standing point, there is absolutely no difference between a .info and a .com. Search engines are supposed to index content, not extensions... However, theoretically G**gl*, Yah00 and CIE could give a better ranking to a specific extension and it seems it is really the case for .edu domains. Nonetheless there are no known reports of such ranking boosting for other extensions.
