Does having query string in urls cause problems ?

    Hi people,

    Does google penalize if i use querystring in my website urls ? (i mean from SEO perspective)

    I don't think he is talking about URL formation, I believe what he is talking about is something like http://www.mysite.com/utm_source=yahoo&utm_medium=ppc !

    The strings are added to track traffic from particular url/landing page,these strings most often used on PPC Ads and for tracking through Analytics Package. I don't think there will be any issue with have query strings in URLS.

    Wikipedia has something about this: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Query_string / http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/URI_scheme

    There's no penalty as such from Google, but ensuring you have actual readable words in the entire URL can offer an advantage if those words are your targeted keywords, and are certainly more friendly and readable for visitors.
