Does having a lot of pages indexed in google mean you will get a lot of traffic. I see a lot of sites with thousands of pages indexed in google getting a good bit of traffic. Is this always true.
Generally no, I have sites with ~2000 pages indexed and they get less than 1K views a day. But sometimes you might take an adventage of number of indexed pages (using internal structure).
Some would love to have 1k uniques a day. Not necessarily, but having more pages (indexed) gives the search engines more times to pick up the keywords on the page and rank them. When blackhat SEO's build pages, they build hundreds of thousands of pages, get them indexed and ranked. They go after the "long tail" of search. Essentially, every website should try and go after the long tail. If they wanna go the blackhat route, that's there prerogative, but whitehat or not, building lots of pages for you visitors will help get more traffic.
lots of choices or posibilities to have many pages for your visitors really helps on traffic, but it depends on how that page ranks on SE's to give you traffic.
Long run, you want to have your keywords, but also supplement your main keywords with content that hits on other lesser, but related, terms and phrases... Having a site that is great for Ice Cream, yummy!, is great, and picking up extra traffic for Low fat Ice Cream recipes, can only help and add... Having more pages indexed means that you might have more pages that are authoratative on lesser phrases... IMO bigger sites do get a little more attention from SE's because how can a site be an authority, if it is only a few pages... but, this is only opinion...
I have had good luck with 150 pages to 400 page websites, I do notice my large ones get more traffic in the long run.
