As far as i think, guestbook links are at best pointless, and at worst spam.
Most are full of porno or durg sales links and would be no better than link farms.

Most types of auto approve links are not woth the bother.

If you find a good guest book that only allows non-spammy content, yes, that would be helpful. Before submitting your comment / link have a look at the neighborhood it will appear in. If the neighborhood smells bad, move on and forget it, SY

there are all sorts of link levels, this is the pure bottom, so a few quality ones won't hurt, but if you place too much they can come back as dangerous, in other words, pure spam...

Well, Google doesn't understand the difference between a spam link and a legit link. The best they can do is recognize nofollow.

As far as spam links go, guestbooks are actually probably the most underrated and one of the most powerful. On most platforms though you've got to keep on hitting the form as often as possible just to keep the links up. I've done that and started raking in huge traffic within a day.

It's not even worth it unless you've got a script to hit them hard constantly. Other people post to them so fast that your link will be gone within an hour. Old school style foreign message boards are good for that too.

Commenting is dead, simple as that. If you're building a brand and establishing your reputation it may be worthwhile to drop a link, but in most cases where you're just looking for a boost in rankings it's not worth your time.

I've commented even in the most non-spammy, relevant manner possible, but whenever I try to include my anchor text the comment won't go up. I don't blame the blog owners for not approving the comments, but no matter how delicate you are with it, hitting high PR blogs with your anchor-text-filled comments just doesn't work.
