Ive heard webmasters say that Craigslist is a good way to get a fast backlink. Others have said the links in the ads are nofollow. Which is true?

Craigslist is a good way to get gbot to stop by and visit your site. Nofollow just stops the flow of pr, that's it.

If you want some fast backlinks, go to the directory list in my signature and submit your site to the last 4 days. You should have about fifty backlinks to your site within 24 hours of submission... But gbot still needs to crawl them, and that will take a little time.

Yes, but be careful, Craigs list is vindictive towards spammers. Don't be surprised if they report you to your ad networks (google, valueclick, etc) for spamming.

Install SearchStatus on firefox and select "Highlight Nofollow Links". This will make it clear what sites have nofollow without looking at the source code, its a real time saver when your looking for blogs and forums to post in.

I had used Craigslist to generate meaningful links for key search terms for a rental property website when I first launched it. To bad that will not be available to me for my new site. It appears Backpage.com has not put the "no follow" tag in place, which may be why more people are flocking to that site... are there any other sites that are similar???

I have placed my site in craigs list numerous times and after a week it was crawled. But beware of your robots.txt. I recommend test it with http://tool.motoricerca.info/robots-checker.phtml
