In my experience, I've found Google to take very little notice of meta keywords and descriptions for ranking.

So would you spend time optimising the terms for this or not bother?

They don't use them in their ranking algorithm but they may use the description tag in their SERps.

And you should always make meta tags. Even though they have very little value to SEO they do have some value to someone and you shouldn't discard it just because the big boys don't use them. Plus you never know who may come along and place great value in meta tags and I don't mean another search engine.

I'd spend a cursory 5 minutes, for completeness.
