I lived in Spring, Texas for many years.
Majority of the people there are into conspiracy theories...lol
What is weird, I found out, tracing my ip, etc leads not to where I am, but to a dinky ass little town in north Iowa.

 

I hadn't noticed, to be honest... Besides, I'm not convinced that's something to celebrate

Not certain what the concern is about tracing the phone number.

I found this info on another forums thread which shall remain nameless- It is the code called from your ads called "http:// pagead2.googlesyndication.com/pagead/ show_ads.js"

Each time an ad is clicked your screen resolution, system information, timezone, cookies, referers, version number and descriptions of all the installed plug-ins are logged.

With all this information, for all practical purposess you are uniquely identified, regardless of ip/phone number.

I wish there was a solid method of identifying users without them having to enter a username and password. I've tried for months to come up with something reliable but alas its not possible.

But you're right - for practical purposes that "fingerprint" of details you mention is good for detecting click-fraud and such.

 

ISPs = the only ones who know which IP belongs to a Phone Number at any given time. Plus like most people said, there are lots of people not even using dial up anymore.

As for the data collected by the javascript, a good deal of it is going to be unique, but some of it will be repeatable. Lots of people use the same plugins, same screen widths, versions of browsers. It's interesting the stuff they collect though, and it is good that they collect it as far as the advertisers are concerned, but bad for all the conspiracy/privacy people.
