I know we should think that engines are not that smart. But would it be imaginable that Google tests a server's capacity to deal with a stream of visitors, before they put you higher in the serps. I got these weird peaks in my traffic for my single keyword only about 4 times a month. Maybe just for a couple of houres. Maybe some kind of testing or will that just be a bug in Google's algo sending me visitors in or the full strength of all of my backlinks.
No. That's positively silly. I highly doubt that Google cares one way or another about whether your server can handle the load of being #1. I also highly doubt that anyone who enjoys a #1 ranking for any search term is going to write to Google and say, "Please lower my listing to page 20 -- my server can't handle all this traffic"...
Haha. Great. Google attacks your server until it does to know what SERPs it should rank you for. Oh boy, what's next.
But it would lower Google's users' experience if they clicked on the first result and could not connect to the server. Actually, Google probably *does* care about this. We shouldn't underestimate all the teeny-tiny details and extremes that someone (Google) will go to, to stay #1. (Money's not their worry). It may sound far-fetched, but I wouldn't rule it out. Actually it wouldn't even be that hard to implement, just a simple test before moving someone into the #1-3 spots, or something of the likes.
I'm not going to debate this with you or anyone else, exam. If you want to believe it, that's okay with me. I'm just amazed and astounded at some of the wild theories people come up with about Google...
Who said something about wild theories?? I was just asking whether it would be possible. You are blowing this out of its proportion.' Cause of high peaks in my traffic, guess that must be a coincident then or some bumb in the road, each month the same pattern since i started targetting that word, i thought whether it could be possible. Did you ever experience high traffic peaks in your stats? I mean like 10k in couple of houres. Why would Google be concerned about the websites content and not be a part concerned about the uptime. It doesnt make sense in my eyes to have a website rank number one and that's its down all the time.
I'm not going to debate this either Minstrel. I simply answered the question- yes I think it could be possible, although I agree, it's far-fetched.
Agreed. Anything is possible. While this is not probable, it was never proposed as a theory in this thread. It was a simple question. And only G really knows what's going on behind those closed doors.
