We run an e-commerce site and we pull in reviews from sites like Trustpilot. Does Google take this text into account when ranking pages? Thanks
I'm pretty sure it does, because a review site I used to work with would gain in pagerank after we introduced this review feature. However that was a while ago and I'm not sure if that's still how it works.
If you have unique reviews on your site, it definitely helps. Pulling reviews from other sites, would be dupe content no? I would just encourage my website visitors write reviews for my site, not lifting stuff from others. Just my 2 cents.
You misunderstand. No one is lifting anything. Trustpilot is an impartial 3rd party review site where people comment on other sites. You then pull reviews in of your site and display them where you want on your site. Reviews from sites like Trustpilot and eKomi etc. have more credibility than reviews displayed directly on a person's site because you can't delete the negative reviews or fake the star rating. I'm surprised you aren't familiar with 3rd party review sites. Huge numbers of mainstream sites use them.
For the product based site or we can say e-commerce site it matters. High review rates always help you to get listed you in the top.
High review rates may help your site get ranked more highly yes, but that's not what I'm asking. I would like to know if Google crawls the actual review text and takes it into account when deciding what a page is about. We generally get good star ratings but the review text often isn't great. People just ramble and write about random stuff and we can end up with a load of text on a page that is mostly rubbish. Also, there are site reviews and product reviews. We display both product reviews and site reviews on our pages. Obviously the site review text is about our site in general and not about a specific product page. Thanks
Yes, But in the both the cases there is different scenario. Although, Google doesn't take all those in to account directly. But when people compare the things at the time of search then it shows. Also search engines algorithm is changing day by day and they are more cautious than ever before. I agree that Site Review & Product Reviews are different one. Thanks You. Cautious
Basically if Google takes review text into account when deciding what a page is about, that means our customers are effectively writing our page content.
