Does Google take direct traffic in to account to help serps?

I recently installed Google analytics on my site which gets about 2,000 direct uniques per day and only about 1,000 uniques from serps per day.

Does Google take how much direct traffic you get in to account when it comes to PR and serps?

I know that Google says analytics doesn't have any affect on the serps but it seems to me that the amount of direct traffic a site gets would play a big role in how popular a site is. If Google doesn't take that info from analytics how else would they know how much direct traffic a site receives? Maybe the Google toolbar, but would that be able to log what you type in your address bar?

I'm assuming the standard line will be that direct traffic has no affect on PR or serps but it seems crazy to me to ignore it.

Google have 2000 methods to calculate pr, probably direct traffic is one of them (just need google tools installed on the visitor)

I wouldn't have thought direct traffic would have much weight though, since Google will have no way of determining the value of where it came from.

I serious doubt it since the Tapcostore site has been at a PR2 or PR3 for 2 years and yet has more than tripled it's daily visits and pages views.

The bottom line is, maintain your site presentable to users. Surely Google will count that for you in a way or another.

According to what i have read, it does not depend upon from where a visitor has came to your site.
