Does Google take a year to index a new site?

I run a few sites. My first one went up in 1996. Everytime I launch a new one it appears in Yahoo and Dogpile within 30 to 45 days of submission. But Google takes forever to show it.

Over at webmasterworld the rumor is that G does this in order to force new sites to spend on Adwords for traffic.

I just marvel at how slow G is.

Do you people find that G lags Y and everyone else?

You can have your site "indexed" within 48 hours if you have a good link pointing to your domain BUT new sites have a tough time ranking for a good couple of months.

The best way to deal with this is pay for PPC on Google Adsense, until you start ranking. Some say its Google's way of getting extra income out of new webmasters, some say its to stop the amount of spam sites getting an income from their activities straight away.

    Can you explain "ping" tactics?

By the way, I wasn't referring to a site not showing up on G for a search on its name. Mine show up for searches on the name too a few weeks after submission. I'm talking about new sites not even appearing in the first 500 SERPs, according to googlerankings, for the key search terms for the first year.

    Or is it just me?

I have been wondering why mine is appearing.

Do I need a certain number of posts before it starts appearing? I did add it to my Profile about an hour ago.

Unless you're purely commercial it's not that hard to get good links to your site completely free. If you've written good articles of any kind, try to find sites with similar (but not directly competing) content as yours, who may run news on their index pages. Email the webmasters about your content that's related to theirs. I've found that although some ignore you, a good amount will mention you as they're always looking for news for their field of expertise. I've had a lot of success emailing other webmasters about my completed projects. My site is doing ok in google after not too long, I reckon. The domain is only two full months old and I've got good traffic for my site and it's building weekly, but experiences good jumps monthly as google deep crawls the site.

Most of the traffic is coming to the areas of the site that the others linked to. These deep links really seem to help my other pages get indexed, too though, although they don't rank as well as the ones with the links do (this is no big secret in the industry).

I can't see any shame in asking for a link if you're writing good content. Fishing a bit is not going to hurt you. Just have a go at it and see what bites. You might be suprised.

you need 10 posts for the sigs if I'm not mistaken. I usually get my site indexed within 1-7 days. Just create a blog or ask a blog to link back to you, then submit their rss feeds to ping-ing stations. =)

This is a good case for owning mulitple domains and having solid, relevant link partners. Not only will links from other relevant sites get you indexed quickly, it can also help avoid the phantom sandbox that Google does not admit to but several seem to be playing in ...

    Case in point:

I recently did a site for a yoga instructor in Elizabethtown Ky.

I did not submit to Google.

    I added a link at a geographically specific site that I own - etowninfo.com.

I placed a small article announcing her services in another site I own - sitespromoter.com.

Within 48 hours after completing these two action - she was indexed by Google and #1 for "elizabethtown yoga" with the other two sites at #2 and #3 pointing to her.

It doesn't take weeks, months or a year - it takes a little ingenuity, professionalism, persistence and patience IMO.

I've done that. PR5 + PR5 + PR4 but still not updated. My site is almost 1 1/2 months old now. Not expecting traffic from Google but at least when people search the full hyyp://blabladotblah, it should show the result.

Get more links, put it in your sig. For some few dollars you can buy some very nice links from people selling links on this forum.
