    Strong Disagree.

    Off page most important.
Check first sites on some keywords, you`ll see lots of backlinks.
In no case will be a 100 backlinks site higher rating more than a 1000 backlinks one..

    Thanks

As long as I can see the blog commenting backlinks appear when I check using a link checker tool, I think yes, google still count those as valid links.

That's total B.S. There is a post from who? Provide a link please. Anyway, and you believe everything you read? Anyway, Matt Cutts has shown he is full of himself many times. He is just about creating false fears.

I think do-follow comments are still counted as a backlink. each links weight might be different depending on how many spam comments they have on that blog.

Haha. I believe everything I read? No. I also have evidence from my personal experience i.e. MY websites! So really what I have experience has been backed up by many others experiencing the same thing. Surely you must have some websites where you've only just had time for blog commenting or just haven't bothered with anything else yet? Have you not seen a drop?

Well anyway, I am merely showing my opinion as no one really knows on what google is doing and they are always changing! I think we will just have to agree to disagree...

All we can do is guess and guess! Unless Google comes out with an official statement like: this and this counts, this and this doesn't all we can do is just make assumptions.

So no point of getting into arguments since both sides lack of real facts, by real I mean confirmed by Google.

Very true, I myself have seen my rank in Google drop recently, but remain the same Yahoo and improve on MSN. I hardly used any blog comments to generate backlinks. It can be quite the frustrating guessing game from time to time.

Well, maybe I shouldn't type this as tomorrow could get back to hell, but my dead site just got 14K additional pages indexed under site:mysite.com after falling to its death from 90K pages to 1K in a 6 months period. I bought a blog commenting package of 5000 blogs about 12 days ago and I have now almost 1500 backlinks created in that period and growing everyday.

Blog commenting did this, no doubt about that. Google doesn't show any of those backlinks in my webmaster account; only Yahoo. Let's see if the number of indexed pages keeps growing and I get some traffic.
