I have a campaign which is running pretty good for the beginning 4 days. However, on the fifth day, I did a change to exclude those bad performing content network sites. The next day, my impressions have dropped from 35k per day to only 1.5k per day and the avg. position has also dropped from 3-4 to 7-8. Then it's always like this for the following days till now. I was wondering if Google has slapped my campaign? Did my change to exclude those bad performing content network sites have big impact on this issue. How can I solve the current issue? I really appreciate your insights and help, thanks a lot!
No, google does not slap content network campaigns. However, google still takes QS into consideration and also, keyword theme/ad/landing page relevance. So if your impressions dropped from 35k per day to only 1.5k after you excluded certain sites, then its good news for you, as those other impressions are not targeted. Am I clear?
Thanks a lot for your answer. However, my problem is: with the same bidding price, originally I could easily spend $100 per day and receive quite a lot clicks. However, after the change, I could only spend $4-$5 per day and very few clicks. Shall I improve the bid a lot in order to solve this issue? My fear is that I could not make profit if I raise it too much. Thanks!
Google absolutely does slap content network campaigns. If you want to check your campaign, download it to the adwords editor and turn on the column of data that shows min bid price for your keywords. These prices don't really mean anything when running on the content network (they are meant for search), but if your campaign is slapped you will see $5-$10 bids.
I'd agree with those that are saying the huge drop is a good thing as you got rid of the content network sites you didn't want.
