Does Google Rank on the First Page Two Seperate Websites That Sit on the Same IP?

Several months ago I was optimizing three web sites for a client of mine. We were targeting the same key term for all three sites, and I realized that all the sites were sitting on the same server. I moved all three sites on separate IPs for linking purposes, but I'm assuming that Google WILL NOT rank three sites sitting on the same IP on the 1st page of their SERPs.

As soon as I moved the sites on separate servers we ranked the three sites for the same key term.

I think it's common sense and it is just a theory, but I'm very interested in other case studies, and what the digital point community has experienced in this regards.

    Thanks and happy searching!

I've seen sites on the same IP rank for the sames term. I think it depends on how competitive the term is. Having the same IP can inhibit this ability, but its a small factor in the rankings.
