Does Google Punish Us For Having A Page Of Our Links? Link Farm?

Discussion in 'Search Engine Optimization' started by jvfconsulting, May 4, 2009.

We had originally started this page of all of our projects, past, present, and future. Now that we're a few years old the page has grown to look almost like a link farm page. What are your thoughts on pages like this? http://www.jvfconsulting.com/links.php

Should we remove it completely, or just redesign it with their logos and some copy next to each link? Does this page serve a purpose for SEO? Thanks for your help!

Having a link page like this one doesn't have any effect on your site. Links pages or resource pages basically serves the purpose of providing related resources to the visitors of sites. I would suggest you to make a resource page more valuable by adding links related to your theme only. Moreover if you are planning to redesign the page you should name this page as /resources.php rather than /links.php.

One more thing: Try not to add more than 100 links on a page. Rather make subpages like /resources.php , /resources1.php etc.

Good advice above. I'd always try steering clear of using the work 'links', either in the page title or URL. Resources is much better. But there's certainly no harm in keeping the page - just try to keep the number of links down to 50-100 and ensure they're mostly on-topic.

isn't PR and site visibility a page level issue?

I am under the impression when you say a PR of 4,5 or 6 etc... you are talking about that specific page and not the whole domain.

What I mean to say is even if you have a page with a gazillion links, it should not effect the overall rating/visibility. May be just that one page would be penalized if at all..... Please correct... way tooo novice for SEO

Very good advice stephen082! When I do the redesign I will definitely name them resources.php and be sure to keep it under 100 links. As long as Google will not punish for showing off all of the projects we have worked we're happy.

link farm is somthing different, try to keep no more then 25 links on page, because your link partners can remove your links.

Google says you should have 100 or less links on a page. This means that you can have up to 99 or 100 links on a page and that will be no problem for Google. But 101 links is not good for them.
