For my next project I am in between making another blog or try making a forum. Anybody ever try to make a forum? Does it rank in google easier?
Forum does not rank in Google easy, it takes lots of time and hard work to get good rank for forums. But you can easily get rank for blogs.
I have actually found, in my own experience, that forums actually require much less work than would a blog for example. Once you get your solid member base, it pretty much just grows naturally in Google. It's almost like having your own team of writers.
Google like platforms like wordpress, etc but forums can still be a good way. Depents on the niche, the ideas behind it and how you manage it.
You will definitely need to have loyal members that will come up with discussions daily. I tried a forum in the past but it was just too much in my opinion.
Everything depends on the market in which you are entered. Forums are usually as dofollow blogs are nofollow. Pay attention to which there are more platforms to spread your link, so you will know what to do.
Whichever one you choose, the key to ranking is having good UNIQUE content. If you have a blog, you need to write good blog posts... or find guest bloggers. If you have a forum, you need to find members to generate good threads. So which one is easier to do? PS. My guess is google will find content on either one and will rank it... the key is how hard it is to get the content generated. Make sense?
It defends how you promote the two, forum is good in long run but it is so hard to handle for the jump start. You need poster, members, knowledge within the niche but later on, it is easy to maintain the content since members will do this for you.
I agree both does give pleasing results at your end and Google does not choose anything from these as long as its legitimate.
I think forums are being crawled faster and more often by Google and other SE crawlers especially if you have a lot of traffics coming in. Although Blogs are more convenient for readers than forum.
Forums are harder in the start, easier to maintain once you get a userbase. Blogs are easier in the start, and why couldn't you add a forum later when you have subscribers..?
Its not about whether each one is easier to rank with , Its about you being able to control whats on a blog but on a forum you do not , Forums are much much harder work to get consistent traffic, consistent revenue and an over all community type of feel that just doesnt come naturally. Blogs are easier to get going , easier to control what quality is being published and easier to earn revenue from . There is no two ways about it . Take it from some one that has 6 forums and used to have 15. Ive been slowly selling my forums so i can gradually get out of the forum game all together it just requires to much attention.
My forum ranks really well for the topic titles, but it's in my local language so there is less competition. But you need to properly SEO it.. Using SMF
If you can attract a lot of active users to your forum, your forum can automatically and frequently update, you know, Google like fresh content.
