Does Google Penalyze For Too Many Updates?

I have a Squidoo lens that built recently and after a few days I made page 1 with Google for a different variation of the keyword that I optimized my lens for. Once I noticed, I then went back and change my original keyword to the one that made the front page....and my site disappeared completely.

That was my third time updating the site in a 10 day period...I was wondering if Google penalizes for too many updates in a short period of time?

I dont think there is any rule of updating your site too much, what about sites like CNN & Sports Net that update thier site everyday with news and events ...

There is a difference between frequently updating a page and frequently adding new pages. Of course Google loves for a website to regularly feed it new content pages. I think Google would look down upon too many drastic page changes though. In particular if the page title changes too much, I could see Google becoming suspicious and dropping that page down in the rankings. If you make any big changes it is common to temporarily lose rankings. Sometimes you just have to be patient while Google re-analyzes your website to decide where to rank you.

Yes, don't change the title often .
However third time updating in a 10 day is not too frequently .
IMO, the more fresh content , the better .

if you (for example) create a blog on a cheap host, and add, like, 600 articles in teh first month, Google won't assume your'e the world's fastest typist, they'll assume you're an automated spam blog, scraping content automatically every 30 minutes.

So yes, you can damage yourself by updating too frequently.

I would hope it doesn't penalize you for updating too often, but I can see why from contentboss' example.

Adding pages at a reasonable pace is fine. Changing titles should not hurt your SEO it should help.

I think here is the problem because you changed the keyword which was already ranking high if I'm not mistaken

They don't penalize for updating frequently but the decrease in your web ranking probably results from change of keyword which you've made earlier causing the robot having the reanalyze back the page.
