Does Google Penalize Websites for buying Links?

Discussion in 'Google' started by monik, Jul 4, 2009.

Recently I read many people saying that their Pagerank had dropped from 5 to 4 or even 3 because of buying links. Is it True? And also if this does happen what's the remedy? Thanks In advance.

If you do actually indulge in buying or selling the links, little use of intelligence would keep you in good stead as it is very difficult for google to notice such transactions.

But if either you or your buyer/seller are pretty naive and put 2+2 in public domain, for google to easily see the result 4, it would surely punish you! :(

If they find out you are buying or selling links they will drop your pr to 0.

They mostly care about big fish though I think, the sites that they send a lot of traffic to and that rank well in their engines. If your site is new, it probably won't hurt, but if you plan to have a high traffic site in the long term I wouldn't do it.

if say you get on average 20 to 30 backlinks a month, then all of a sudden get 10,000 google notices that.

If you're getting decent traffic, don't chance it. For a new site, you'll probably be okay.

Oh even for a new site you risk the sandbox if you are putting 10000 automatic baclinks per day for example.

No, Google only penalizes sites for selling links...penalty may be of ranking drop or PR drop (so that nobody will purchase links from them) or both.

If buying links can penalize then your competitors will surely have some money to buy offensive links for you over night:)...but still excessive link building in short span, can cause some sort of penalty whether its because of paid links or free links.

I heard this too, but I am always wondering how can Google know if a link is paid or not. Google mainly analyze the page content.

I have seen so far official response from Google stating that buying links as a commons sense goes is not punishable, and selling links is allowed as long as rel="nofollow" is applied , which obviously will cut the link juice. Now about what I have notice with "How do they know if I'am selling links" , it's all about if the link is relevent to your site content and if the site and if the landing site is establish or new , and more. Google is getting lost in its filters lately and its getting ridiculous.

Yes, you can be "punished" by Google for link buying and selling. If it happens, you don't have much alternative.

Only in really obvious cases will they notice it. Personally i won't recommend it just for the fact it's not neccessary if you are building backlinks the right way.
