Friends.. i just wanna ask u experts over here dat does Google really penalize if we use same meta tag for all blog posts. Meaning in meta tag, instead of

<b:if cond='data:blog.url == "http://techotips.blogspot.com"'>
Code (markup):
Can i use
<b:if cond='data:blog.pageType == "index"'>
Code (markup):
So that the same meta tag applies to all my blog posts. I was using second meta tag previously... bt i read somewhere that such meta tags can result in google penalization. But, now, when i have switched over to First one... i am finding my site traffic reduced by almost 15% (???).

So, should i switch over to first one again without any fear of google penalization???

And yes.. there are some persons who refuse to accept the role of meta tags in SEO. So, plz don't post reply like "Meta tags do not affect search engine ranking".... or so.

I have personally experienced meta tags effect for my 2 sites.. i am damm sure dat meta tags affect SE rankings...

So, please help me.
Thanks in advance....

Well why would you want the same meta tags on all blog pages. Suppose on one post you write about seo and the other page you write about aaron walls new link building service, how are the same meta tags gonna help?

You are right about the meta tags affecting SE rankings. Especially the title tag.

having same meta tags on all the pages do not get your site penalized but it won't help your site. as coolmazer has cleared that the two different topics having same meta tags won't pass any benefit, therefore, if you have two posts one about search engine marketing and the other post about non-profit organizations then having same meta tags for both the post does not make any sense.

as far as google is concerned.. the keyword metatag has no impact at all positive or negative. Google completely ignores this tag. Infact unless you are concerned with yahoo rankings I suggest avoiding even using it. All it serves is to give your competitors an easily discoverable list of what terms you are targeting. Only tags you should be concerned with are title, canonical, robots, and description (though even description is widely considered to be completely ignored by google)

Concerning the Title tag- You definately want to vary this one. I recommend putting the keywords/subject the page is primarly targeting at the beginning of the title, a secondary keyword after it adn then maybe your brand/domainname. Like this-

Hilton Hotels - Recent Fire at Hilton Property | Travelnews.com
Marriott Hotels - Marriott Stock Drops 5 Points | Travelnews.com

Get it?

@coolamazer
I have site based on very restricted topic of hacking social network sites. I am able to put all description in one meta tag and this meta tag can suffice need for almost all articles. So, i am able to use same meta tag for all posts. And for those that have topic not related to hacking(say eg proxy sites), i m putting separate meta tags for those.

I just wanted to put same meta tag for my around 25-30 articles based on hacking... using different for remaining.

@ApexSEORM
As far as my experience is concerned, meta description is counted by google... R u sure of ur opinion.
Bcoz meta description is shown by Google in search results and search keywords are highlighted... so google is considering meta tags.
Correct me if i m wrong...
