Does Google Penalize Blogs*

If your blog or site has a copied content then there is a possibility that Google will penalize it, well not updating your site regularly won't cause for Google penalizing it your site would just lose its previous search engine rankings because search engine spiders easily crawl or index those sites that have regular updates.

I think there is no penalty, the drawback however is that your site will not gain much exposure. Let's put it like this, the more blog updates with quality contents, the better ranking, more unique visitors...

 

I think you are build back links more on short time, unnatural growth of back links.

 

if your website or blog has duplicate content (copy content) then google will penalize your website or blog if your website has fresh content (not copied from any site) then Google will love this.

 

For blog, you should avoid duplicate content issue which can be penalized by google.

 

Thanks to each one of you who took your time off to post on this thread. While I was away for sometime and I couldn't post my response to this thread.

I went through each one of your post and now jotting down as majority of you confirmed that

- Google will not penalized blog if there is no update
- However as there is not much new content Google may not index search result on the top of the search pages

Thanks, I didn't know the term "Black hat SEO" , so assuming there is a white hat SEO which means done in a fair way?

@Grimm, there was a post/ thread somewhere in DP however I don't have thread URL and neither I was able to ask the original poster about this. thus i had to create the thread.

@awais minhas, Yes, your are right, my site needs more traffic.

@TemplateSpin, yes I am aware of the fact copy content is no good to google. however my question was not related to copy content. It was about the the updating content.

@milpool, I think it's just the people observations and the responses are just for the reference?

 

i don't update my blogs all too often and i still have a good ranking
so don't sweat it and just update as often as you can

 

as I know updating blogs regularly can index blog posts more faster. But I don't think google penalize blogs which are not updating regularly.

 

If you not updating your blog that is not mean that you will be get penalized just you have to keep in mind that you need not to copy some one content on your blog that is only way you can get cathed.

 

Google is not so harsh to penalize your blog only for this mistake that your are not updating it regularly. If it is low in traffic then start inserting new content in it when you need traffic. Do it once in a week. It will be sufficient. Good luck
