Does Google penalise you for pinging articles?

Someone in this forum recently said that Google will penalise you for pinging articles or blog posts. Is this true or are they good ways to get things indexed?

Also, if an article doesn't get indexed after the first ping, can you then ping it again a few days later? Is pinging - eg pingler - a bit like articles/blog posts in that sometimes a ping will get indexed and sometimes it won't????

If it's not getting indexed you have to ask yourself why?

Ping it once and move on.

Pinging too often in a very short time would surely annoy the SEs but doing it in a practical and more reasonable manner making the whole effort as natural as possible...would do one no harm! :)

Is this saying that pinging a post twice will stop an article from being indexed?

Google are harsh - if they consider you to be spamming in any way, you'll get penalised.

I would be careful with this sort of thing.

But i have never come across such a problem of penalising for pinging.
Infact i used to ping in two different sites once i publish a new article...

It may not completely prevent your article from being indexed but the only reason I can think of that you would want to re-ping the same service with the same article would be if you edited it and made a change that was bigger than just re-wording a sentence or correcting simple spelling/grammatical errors. Once an article has been sent to a pinging service, they have it and shouldn't need it again unless they lose the data somehow. Pinging twice is like sending someone two copies of the same newspaper. All the content is the same, they only have need for one, and they might get offended by having to deal with throwing out or recycling an extra copy. Once they read the first, there is no need for a second that doesn't offer anything new.

I do not know what cms you are using but a popular example would be wordpress. By default, it can overping which can negatively affect your site. Because of this, there is a plug-in or two that you can get which limits excessive pinging and allows you to set some parameters for when you want it to ping and when you don't want it to ping, all in the hopes that you will not offend Google or other search engines, or even the pinging services themselves. "Responsible pinging" shouldn't hurt your chances of being indexed but pinging excessively should be avoided both out of respect for potential retaliation in the form of de-indexing of the article (or even your site as a whole) and because it offers no apparent benefit.

most of us do not really ping 100 times for each blog post. I dont see why Google should penalize us for using pinging service.

I'm really talking about pinging day 1 and then a few days later if not indexed and then, possibly, a few days alter again in desperation.

At the moment, I've got a few articles which are not getting indexed which ARE unique - I've COMPLETELY rewritten them from the first one published and have only had 3-4 articles of that type indexed in total.

I think pinging an article more than once is a bad idea. No one really knows how google's system works so it's best to only do it once. I mean waiting a week and pinging again is the only safe approach I would say, but after a week you'll usually be indexed through normal means anyway.
