I have a website which is powered by wordpress. The site is almost 4 months old now. But it is not showing up for the keyword even after extensive link building. The site has few pages which hardly has got any content. Does Google penalize websites for this.

Google doesn't tells anywhere that if you have low content will penalize you.

No they don't penalize. It's just that you won't rank well in their search engine, that's all.

Duplicate or stolen content - yes
Less content in the pages - no
Try to get at least a few quality backlinks ( pr4 and above ) and bot will love your site soon.
    Just my 2 cents.

If content is the king, then backlinks is the queen.
If you haven't enough good content or backlinks, then nobody will penalize you, you just not a king and a queen...

I have heard that will penalize you if you slap a bunch of adsense ads on a contentless site...
