Does Google pays for Google Chrome adverts?

I have noticed Google advertising its Google Chrome browser on my blog a lot, this is not surprising as it is a computer related blog.

Just one question, anyone knows if this counts as a non paid or paid advertising if anyone clicks on it?

I know Google advertises some of its products for free when they say no advertiser has been found to fill in that space, I am not sure if Google Chrome counts between one of the adverts Google uses for free.

Even if AdSense does not find a bidder for your ads, they will place a default ad on there in which you still get credit for.

I always thought Google does not pay when they advertise their products, like adverts for Gmail and Google Adsense appearing on the site, I guess I was wrong then. Thank you.
