Does Google or any SERP like directories?

Well do they like the search listing from directories, and before I buy tons of directory links, do they really help, have you noticed any difference?

Presumably so - although its hard to say exactly what the effects are. Ive got a four way link going with 3 other directories with PR5 and PR6 - my SERP has gone up by 3 of 4 places in the last week - im now positioned 9th on google for 'webmaster directory' instead of 12th or something on the second page. The result also comes down to the competition as well...

No... More listings in the right places = better G results. If you just slam your way through the trillions of directories and add your listings hoping a few will become popular or strong, you might wind up being disappointed.

Seek out the key directories first, and get a position in those directories that will do you some good. Then, work your way through the rest.

Correct - sure lots and lots of backlinks from any source is good, but quality backlinks for quality sites with good PR, traffic etc is likely to make a bigger inpact. Also if backlinks come from a related topic site then this is even better (ie niche directories).

I think if your are looking for back links It is only the directories can provide you

and not any others so get more back links from directories

Backlinks where you generally get to pick the linked text are always useful. A must to get your site name to the top of the serps and will help with your keywords (as has been already mentioned).

I would recommend directory submissions be part of a bigger campaign for backlinks. Backlinks coming from only one type of source will not get the respect as ones from a combination of different types of sites.

Nice work. Being on the first page on Google, that's the aim we all should go for :D
