I am asking this because yesterday I made a change to some of my pages by replacing a Large Rectangle (336 x 280) ad with a Half Banner (234x60). After that I got about 15 clicks but earning was only $0.87. Theoretically Large Rectangle shows 2-4 ads while Half Banner shows only 1. So I wonder if Google pays low for clicks on a Half Banner than a Large Rectangle. I hope the experts here will have an answer for me.
strange! the less the ads displayed on your site, the more these ads pay'becasue only high biddin ads get displayed. Don't have any suggestion for you except to keep following up your earnings for a bit more time.
Oh! I also thought like that. I had to change the ad format to blend the ad well with my site design. With Large Rectangle the CTR was about 1.65%. Now when I changed it to Half Banner and blended well with my site, the CTR has gone up to 2.8% so far. After that I got about 30 clicks today as of now but earning is only $1.98. But yesterday with 30 clicks I had about $6.2. Wonder what is happening.
Yup. Thats what I am doing now. Luckily 2 ads i.e. Banner (468x60) integrates well with my site just like Half Banner. I am going to experiment with various ad sizes and see what happens.
Quick Update. After I changed it to Banner ad which shows 2 ads side by side, it appears CPC has increased. Before - 30 clicks - $1.98 After - 38 clicks - $4.32 Is there anyway by which I can know how much each did the last 8 clicks (38-30) generate?
In theory, the fewer the ads displayed per page the higher the CPC because supposedly only the highest paying ads get shown.
So may be the 1.98 to 4.37 jump was due to a click from a high paying location. I guess I must go back to 1 ad then.
