Does Google now automatically stop more than 3 ad blocks being shown?

I'm redesigning a site to use Wordpress, and I think I've put the adsense code in the wrong place after a post. I wanted it to show after the first post only.

However, it also shows after the second ... but not any more.

If I look at the source code, the adsense code is after every post. But my site only shows 2 (there is one in the header).

Just wondering if Google's code now prevents more than 3 blocks being shown on one page?

yes, i've noticed that it does.
however, you should remove the extra ads because it's still against the tos.

Yes, google will automatically cut it off after your 3 blocks/page limit is reached, even if you have code for more. I had this situation with a blog I was using, and wrote to them on it, asking if I would be penalized or my account would be in danger of a TOS violation, and they replied simply that it would not be, that Adsense handles placement > 3 blocks correctly, and my account should be fine.

Sweet, because it works nicely showing after the first two posts only!

I just wanted to back up what Telmari said. I emailed Google about accidentally showing >3 adblocks on my blog's front page, and they said that only three would ever be visible at any given time.

It's against Google's TOS to have adsense code in the source code?

I noticed that too: with ad-units they do show more than one - even though you are supposed to use only one.

Well, very usefully ... Google replied to tell me that my payments would go through on the normal date. Which isn't what I had asked them AT ALL! [shakes head].

Anyway, I found a better solution. This shows you how very simply you can add adsense after the first post, or first two posts.

I was sure that using more than 3 blocks was against the TOS, however I have seen many large websites off signature links in here with 4 or 5.
However, why are these being shown?

Ian, premium advertisers are allowed to negotiate their own terms ... some, like joystiq.com have 7-8 ad blocks.

For the rest of us (plebs), it's 3 maximum.

I remember when adsense first came out I put it on my blogspot blog and it was in a loop code but only 3 ad blocks showed up.

    Thank You

Ahh right, that would make sense.
Although, I would have thought being a premium publisher these ads would be sexed up a little more? The ones I saw were just plain standard.
