i have noticed on a lot of blogs and sites that they sell links/buttons on the side in 120x120ish sizes, does google mind people doing this and can you get penalized, also how much money do these links earn? I have a site with about 8000/month visitors, would i get much from that? Thanks in advance.
Google doesn't like a site made for selling links and Google is not against advertisment as well. People make good money by selling links and the amount depends on various factors - traffic, links, PR etc
its not bad if you have a page with links on it, its best to make sure the links are geared toward your niche tho
From what I have read, Google won't have a problem with it as long as your site is not based on just selling links. If your site is about something else, and is optimized for something else, but you are selling links on the side, I think you should be fine.
It's a risk but those ad boxes will be a good source of income if you're in a generally expensive niche.
They allow sold links which are no-follow. You can decide to sell links which are do-follow, at your own risk. If the site you're selling links to is relevant to your own sites, it's going to be difficult to impossible for Google to detect.
You can advertise your link in the Buy, Sell, and Trade forum at this site. Also, google shouldn't penalize you because there is pretty much no way they can detect it.
Although google hates on selling and buying links, but I think google will not easily detect your site that sells link if the links are related to your site theme.
Google doesn't like a site made for selling links and Google is not against advertisment as well. Our goal is to provide users the best search experience by presenting equitable and accurate results. We enjoy working with webmasters, and an added benefit of our working together is that when you make better and more accessible content, the internet, as well as our index, improves.
With selling links contact people in your niche area, start with businesses located near by and then start to contact people further afield. I would make the links do-follow google may penalise you for this, and then again may not it all depends on what you want to charge and what value you put on the links, you may get more if they are no-follow. A good way to gauge value is set up a free ad for someone who has a stats program you can access then watch to see the click throughs, then work out what the approx cost would be for clicks from google adwords and then calculate the value of your ads, using google adwords as a bench mark. This will give you some backup for the value of your links.
