Was just wondering if Google looks at and indexes file names? For instance, my site focuses on the hobby of collecting celebrity autographs - would it be better to name my home page logo "collect_autographs.jpg" rather than "homepage_logo.jpg"? By doing this, I suspect I might have a better chance appearing on first page of google image search for "collect autographs", not that this matters much. Thanks. Tom
Hi Tom, Google looks at and indexes URL's and most URL's include file names. Thus yes, it is better to include keywords in file names. Use the hyphen (-) to separate words. Do not use the underscore (_) that Google does not see as a word separator. In your example, you should use collect-autographs.jpg as file name. Jean-Luc
I find it highly unlikely that picture naming plays a major factor in ranking. I have 3 yahoo stores, and my typical image name is something like this: http://us.st11.yimg.com/store1.yimg.com/I/onlinediscountmart_1881_38928673 doesn't hurt my rankings at all, as far as I can tell.
