Does Google like messy campaign structures?

I have a problem with ad words that I can’t figure out.
I created a campaign, stuffing a lot of keywords under the same ad group which created a very “messy” campaign structure, the campaign was performing great for few weeks but I wanted to rearrange it better so it will be easier to improve the campaign.
I divided the campaign to a lot of ad groups with different ads to make it very targeted (using the same keywords as in the old campaign structure).

    Now the problem starts here:

The Quality Score was “great” - same as the old campaign
The avg. CPC was the same as the old campaign
    The avg. position was lower
The clicks I received were 20% of the clicks I used to receive in the old campaign
    The CTR was significantly lower.

I stopped my new “better targeted” campaign and returned to my old “messy” campaign and it works great again.

Does anyone know what can be the problem? How come my avg. position is lower than it was on the old campaign with same bid, same keyword and same quality score and better campaign structure?

Google needs some time to analyze newly structured campaign, so leave some time for it. Everything should ok, after few days.

Once you move keywords all there history is lost. So you need to wait a week or so for it to work up to what it was before.

Yeah, I've noticed that when I re-arrange my campaign structures, the click-throughs and impressions go down, but after a few days, they go back up and sometimes it's incredibly better than it was before. On the other hand, sometimes I re-arrange and after 2 or 3 weeks, it simply doesn't improve (or it gets worse). So, sometimes it's just whether or not you're lucky.
