well i think you've never seen a post or thread with PR that's why you said that.. its because there are tons of post and threads out there.. try to browse sticky old threads..

A thread, like any other page, can be assigned pagerank as long it's popular enough to accumulate backlinks.

Well, they get every benefit they would get from a regular web page, although if you think of the number of links per sigged forum page, it becomes clear that the effect is but marginal.
