I think Google does not follow pages/links within cgi-bin (sub)directories.

    thanks no,

do you know of anywhere I can find out more about this? I am signed up for this report called Google Alert (not sure where I signed up for it), but it emails me when certains things arise, like my url, somewhere withing Google's database. They just sent me an alert and that was the url.

My backlinks have not changed here....

if they can they will follow it. You have to ban them via robots.txt if you don't want them to follow....

G type in cgi-bin and you get 16 milion results.....

But if you want to diguise it not take chances with variable and make it nice for users simply use a mod_rewrite and it will look like just any subdir.
Pls note you dont havet to have mod_rewrite writing lots of directories
    mysite.com/dir1/dir/2/dir3/dir4/mypage.htm it concats
    mysite.com/dir1-dir2-dir-3-dir4-mypage.htm

    cheers

I don't think I made myself clear enough. This link is from a backlink source. They added me to their database. The Google Alert is from a third party who monitors and tracks links to your website, but their search is G database driven (very similar to Shawn's tools).

I read somewhere in an interview with a guy working at Google, that they don't spider /cgi-bin pages, but that info might be outdated.
