Does Google Even Consider Keywords?

    hello,

its an odd question that i have to ask seeing as how i do not follow the new updates and changes in how google indexes sites and how google ranks based on their algorithm.

    SO THE QUESTION:

When you in the header part of websites, does google still consider the meta keywords?

I had realized that one of my sites had not had any keywords or a description, and i had added them and was talking to one of my friends who said that googles new algorithm DOES NOT consider the meta keywords in their ranking system.

    IS THIS TRUE?

    All answers much appreciated.

Wow. that sucks. But i will still continue to put keywords in the header in case any other SE still uses them. and also, i think eventually they will rely on them in the long run.

Google doesn't use the meta tags for ranking purposes. I haven't used them on new websites in years.... it's just a waste of time.

There not a waste of time because yahoo still uses them, and I'm sure there are other search engines that do as well.

I consider it a good practice to put my keywords in the header... and so I still continue to do it, whether it benefits me or not! :)

    Hi, ilovefireflies

It is right that Google has omitted the meta keywords tag but meta description tag is still very important for on page optimization purpose. Also, keeping your meta keywords tags would not hurt your rankings on Google but would benefit your rankings on other SEs, IMO.

    Have a nice day,

Yes, as per Matt said that google is actually ignore the meta tag due to the search engine nowadays able to catch the "keyword" without the meta tag

Meta keyword been abused for stuffing but nothing's wrong putting them up. There are so many sites that rank well even without some meta tags, even title tag, their contents makes it..

to be honest it takes such a short time to add keywords to your header, why not do it? Most people say that Google doesn't use them but no-one knows 100% what Google wants. If there's even a 0.000001% chance that they might be used why not take the 60 seconds it takes to add 'em? I put 'em in anyway.

Google has ingored the existence of keywords absolutely. But it is still important to design a perfect title for your site.

Ya its true Google not consider meta keywords, but other search engine Yahoo and Bing recommended meta keywords. So if you want good ranking in all major search engine then its good practices to add keywords in meta as well as in header and footer.
