I am looking at buying a domain for a BANs store and have the option between a .net and a .info domain...the .com is taken.

Does google discount .info domains cause they are cheap. Sorry for the stupid question, but I have always wondered.

Domain extensions, or TLD's, officially have no effect on Google's SERPs.

Some people dispute this but Google has stated multiple times that TLD's have no effect on SERPs. I agree with this.

But spam filters can have a problem with .info, so if you are planning to contact customers/prospects through the same domain, I'd avoid .info.

It is hard to get the info's indexed, they need to age well, build up some trust with google. I would stick with pre owned domains for BANS.

It is not hard to get a .info indexed. You can get any site indexed just as fast as another. If you want to get indexed fast, just submit your site to a a bunch of social bookmarking sites. It is really simple actually.

What my understanding is... Google does not penalise .info domains and they get indexed as fast as any other extension.

But that being said, I have read at a few places that especially for BANS, somehow .info domains are not working well.

Ok ok, let's keep it at this: bans and .info isn't a good combination, because blackhats used that combination. I'm sure you can get .info domains indexed as fast as the rest. But the question is about BANS here, and also not about banned sites.

Yeah I understand, but what I meant was that it is harder than using a .com. Google doesn't discount .info's because they are cheap, but because blackhats used the .info's to put up bans on it, and made 100.000 websites overnight. That was a couple of months ago, maybe they begin to be a bit more tolerant to this combination ( bans on .info domains). So anyway Google doesn't discount bans or .info's, they used to discount ( or still do) the combination of the 2 together. Hope I informed you well enough and good luck on the bans!
