Does Google devalue the domain .info much

Since .info domain is much cheaper, I am thinking to use those domain for link directories. But I heard many people say that .info has lower ranking than other domains in google. Some people even do some experiments to verify that. i just wonder if that is worth to try .info domains.

According to Google, the domain extension doesn't matter in the least.

My .info sites do fine in google. The folks telling you dot info sites incur a penalty probably are the same folks who aren't capable of getting .com sites to rank :)

I don't think because someone used .info to create spam directories makes .info spam. Believe me there are much more .com SPAMs.
Today it is not easy to find good .com name, while .info gives you more options to find good available name. From search engine point of view, it doesn't matter, just content does. But people used to more for .com

Haha yeah, pretty crazy not to think its the actual spam directory and not the domain extension which may be the root of the problem :)
