I read so many SEO articles that talk about a site getting banned because it is getting too many backlinks in a short space of time or because it is getting links from dodgy sites. Does anybody think this is actually true? If so wouldn't it be easy to just send your competitors thousands of links to get them banned? I'm sure Google is a lot smarter than this so I'm thinking that the whole 'google bombing' debate is a complete non-issue.
google bombing isnt about getting a site BANNED. Its about ranking a site for a kw...say you want to have a competitor rank for a porn term for example- you bomb google with links and the site quite possibly could rank for the porn term, and in time might devalue the sites other ranking(s) for other kws.
I suspect the webmaster could use the webmaster tools to communicate to google something wrong is going on
Also, why waste all your energies building 100's and thousands of bad links on a competitors when u could just build a few good ones to your site?
I think you have to have some porn terms in your site and meta tags for that to happen. The algorythm takes all into account
