Are my visitors being tracked by IP or individual cookies? For example, if one of my sites is often linked to by professors at a university for some of their courses and students visit while on campus, are their IP's tracked (possibly showing same or similar IP for each student) or cookies, so that each computer or user is uniquely tracked? Does it even matter? I'm just very curious.... And yes, I DO get a lot of traffic for one of my sites from universities.
and other stuff they don't reveal...but browser type, screen resolution, etc could also be monitored. They can't assume 20000 users behind a proxy is the same person!
Definetly. I think they also know a good majority of the large networks and their addresses and stats. They know that a large university will be doing alot of clicks, but your home lan shouldn't be. Things like that.
IP, cookie and/or by their face.. just kidding.. they use something more sophisticated and they don wanna revel that.
