Well, there are a lot of gods worshiped here in India, there are so many gods that everybody have their own personal god to worship. I know a temple in Jammu(a state), where there are close to 1,25,000 idols of god.
you sleep better at night and feel nappier if you believe in something, if you have faith. Faith gives people strenght, you must believe in something...at least in yourself science still can't explain certain things, people have full control of their life, but they still can't decide when they're born and they pass away, a lot of evolution is still ahead..
I would suggest that all of us are equally religious, we just have different objects of worship. Romans 1:16-32 says this: I would suggest that Charles Darwin and, say, Pat Robertson were/are equally religious, they just had different objects of worship.
Actually I spent 7 years with a tiny amount of sleep because i wanted to have faith. When I finally realized there was no need for God or religion, I started sleeping 8-10 hours a day It also gives them the stupid idea that they can make rules for everyone else, and the stupid idea that they are right and everyone who doesn't believe what they do is wrong. You're right, it can't. But science has come a lot closer to explaining things with logic and reason than any religious book has.
By calture we worship many gods. When we are struck by troubles we go back to almighty....we see god even in rocks...the central Idea reamains same and common.... My grandfather was dependent on nature for food ...my father and my children too dependent on nature for food. No scientist so far invented food.....We have day by day advanced technologies...when it comes to eating food the whole world has to be on common point. My grandfather was not aware of cellphones and computers but my children aware of this. But they are eating what my grand-father used to eat to fill his stomach. On this condition I can feel existing of god.
This debate whether god exists or not could be endless !!! Some people believe in it some dont. There are valid points for their beliefs for both sides. Its totally upto a person to believe in god or not.
that's because some people interpret religious books wrong.. or may be they read wrong religious books right, I believe in science too! A day will come and humans will be immortal! Religious books don't explain anything, they're not supposed to, religion is not about logic or reason, it's all about faith, you either have it or not and that's your choise. Most important thing is to believe in what you do
The only problem I have with religion is when people try to use it to control others. I think that is one of the problems facing society today. I think people should practice whatever religion they wish, but when you try to use it to control people and shape their beliefs, I think that is wrong.
People try to control other people regardless. Religion is just a popular vehicle. As to religion being for the weak. I would like that person to tell me what a "weak person" is? I need a more "adult" way to evaluate people. Actually, I don't even know where to start. Would a weak person be someone who is addicted to porn, alcohol and/or drugs? Perhaps someone who is not successful in education and economics? Perhaps a taker who gives nothing back to his or her community? Would a weak person be someone who does not care about others? How about a person who lacks formal educational degrees and overall wisdom? Anyway, help me out here.
The one who cannot control himself, cannot control his anger, cannot control his desires when needed.
Then most of Americans are weak, because they don't think for themselves (and it has nothing to do with religion). Just look at politics. Most people walk around regurgitating talking points from the mass media. Back to religion, many religious people think for themselves. Therefore, religion does not make one weak.
The initial post in this thread was obviously written by a perceptive skewing new-conservative fundamentalist christian who apparently fancied himself so witty he 'perceived' he could bat the fly of practicality with wordplay. The idea that a conversation between two intellects could go such a way is inconceivable. Wait, there is not inconceivability. Only the absence of conceivability.
My family are a bunch of fundamentalist Christians, and I can't stand them. In fact, I've all but stopped talking to most of them. It is clear to me now that they are brainwashed. My grandmother thinks all Dinosaurs at plants............including the T.rex. It is a complete joke. Their understanding of history is completely flawed. Evolution may have its problem, but so does creationism. If God does exist, exactly what is he doing to help humanity? He/She doesn't talk to us, and as I see all the horrible things that go on in the world, I conclude God doesn't exist, and if he does, he is behind all the problems we see.
There's a lot of good in this world as well. And the question is what happens after our existance on earth. If you believe that it will be wonderful, then compared to the time on earth it's not so bad what we go thru. it really all depends on whether you believe that God will do what the bible or whichever else book promises, giving reward in heaven.
I couldn't have said it better myself. This is one of the reasons I think ETs are manipulating humans. Latehorn, have you sat down and read the history of the three major world religions? I mean, they all basically started the same way. Some guy was out in the woods or the mountains, when he "received knowledge from God" telling him to start his religion. This happened with Islam, Christianity, and Buddhism. Many of these same religions are at war with each other today. It makes me wonder if our religions weren't created on purpose to keep humans divided. What if these Muhammad, Buddha, and Christ were all receiving "messages" from ETs for the purpose of starting religions which would keep humanity in check. Bob Lazar, who says he worked at Area 51, says he found memos which stated that ETs "gave humans their religions" so that humans would have meanings to their lives. That is consistent with how many religions start. Now look today at the Raelian movement and other UFO cults. I think those religions could have been started under the same circumstances.
