A few weeks ago one page of my site dropped way down in the serps. This page had positions in the top ten for several keywords, now with all those keywords it's in the hundreds. Other pages on my site still rank in the top ten for some competitive phrases, it's just this one page that has dropped. No seo related changes made recently. Has google ever been known to give a penalty to just one page of a site, or are penalties always sitewide?
On my blog, some pages are listed in Supplemental results that used to be in regular results ... they used to receive some hits from Google, but now nothing. Very odd.
Yes, G will penalize one page. They can drop it in the SERPS and or ban it. G does whatever they want. Sometimes there's even a reason for it that makes sense. But not often...
Perhaps on that page other sites have come up that are better at their SEO or more targeted for that phrase? I think you can only count a page as banned if it's no longer indexed.
sometimes when I search for a site by domain name I see internal pages instead of the index page my guess is the index page is penilized
