Your poll would have been better if it wasn't just yes/no/don't know.

Results would have more accurate if it were:

    1. Extremely beneficial
    2. Very beneficial
    3. Slightly beneficial
    4. Not at all beneficial

I completely agree with this statement. You can get some direct traffic too if you are posting in a related forum. When I have a new site, I will include a sig link for a period of time to help the site get indexed faster and it seems to work.

Signature links are definitely worthy especially when it comes from dp. It helps to increase your number of backlinks and do play a role in the PR (although, it may not be that great) and driving up the traffic. People will not buy the signature links if they are not at all worthy!

Yes I believe forum signature has an effect on ranking in search engines, not to mention the traffic you will also get from them.

I believe that the signature is good for your website´s value. It is not a wonder but it could bring you traffic and some value for your PR.

It's good for getting crawled and getting some foot traffic, but a few hundred signature links simply do not compare to high-PR links from authority sites.

I build db driven sites that have around 100,000 pages and I can tell you for certain that it helps. One in my sig just got a bump to 15k indexed pages while another I did around the same time is sitting at 500 right now. Both sites I did an equal amount of link building and both are around 7 months old.

So if you are hoping for a #1 result in the SERPs, look elsewhere. If you just want to get indexed, there are few tools more powerful than a few hundred posts and some sig links.

I've seen a link to my sites come up from the signatures, but mostly it probably helps more for humans clicking on interesting links.

I think it helps, but not by much. DP probably is PR5 so any site on it would get some extra attention from the bots....

Depends on what you are shooting for. I think they are helpful in terms of traffic indeed. You see most people want to buy sigs from active members with a high post count. This is not 100% because they want more backlinks; they know that the more people who actually see the sig, the more chances they have of getting hits.

I would think it helps a small amount, as the above said probably gets your site indexed and crawled slightly more often.

Well, instead of my sig only popping up in google and others, the website itself now pops up, first usually. And extra visitors never hurt either.
