How much does it help to post on related forums with your website as your sig? Does it take a tonne of links or would even a good few help? Its just for uncompetitive keyword website. Obviously it depends on the page rank of the forum as well but even like a page rank 2 or 3 will be better than a site just newly made. Would it help a lot?
As far as i know it helps and links from few good website will help you... btw i don't have much knowledge looking forward to hear and learn from other expert members of this forum
In majority of cases links from forums have 'nofollow' attribute meaning that the search engines don't follow these links and PR value is not passed on to your site. On the other hand if you find a 'dofollow' forums, links from there can help a lot. Remember that increasing PR is not the only goal you should focus on. Making informative and helpful comments even in nofollow blogs can help generating a decent traffic.

look at the source code of any link and see. there are also special tools that allow you to analyse links.
