Yes Facebook and Twitter can help you. There are people I know who even set-up their business in Facebook itself. There will be little to no trouble in business promotion because the social media is the hub of this year's generation. Contests can boost your likes and follower count.

Brilliant nothing like thousands of likes among a bunch of bored teenagers with no pocket money to spend...

but it does look pretty and neat eh and that reach among all those people is worth oh so much....

Both are free, you have nothing to lose. Give it a try. It works for some and not others.

Facebook works well if you use their advertising system but involves costs. I used their system for one of my sites and it worked really well.

Wouldn't be a way I would choose to advetise gkd_UK as I have seen how my teenage relatives and all their friends take the pee with ads and clicking on them for fun & it's a surprise anyone gets a ROI at all on FB ads with what I have seen first hand here.

I know one bunch of teenagers that specifically click ads they don't like because they don't like seeing them but know people have to pay for the clicks and they do so as they think it's funny and find it highly amusing.

And that's just one group local to me imagine how many others could be doing the same.

I have done it myself for crap ads I think are taking the mick just to cost the advertisers money...

Agreed, my ads were targeting a particular audience and it worked well for me. Facebook allows for age groups to be targeted, gender, location etc

You are perhaps the first person other than stories i have seen amongst big TM name companies who has said their FB ads have worked well gkd_uk

I did an experiment recently helping out a guy with some SEO who was selling FB likes etc to get an insight into his biz model and boy what an eye opener to the world of FB likes scams (and other such things) that was.

I got to learn a lot of the ins and outs and its not pretty and talk about fake accounts boy that was a real eye opener to... LOL

I did this "private investigation" (as Dire Straits say/sing) and specfically to gain an understanding and quite how anyone gets a ROI on FB ads considering the amount of fake accounts on there made for target age groups etc I am still not too sure

One of my real new SEO clients tells me he has has had one sale since he opened his FB for his biz (how long has FB been big LOL) which is one of the reasons I went to learn a few things as he asked me if i knew how to improve this, though I had told him SMM was not my thing by any means but I would investigate things to learn and see.

Twitter, Facebook can really help your business. Sometimes, a website gets powerful backlink from these profiles, also people get to know about your business and your online reputation builds strongly.

Most businesses use Facebook as a tool to keep in touch with their customers. It's basically an alternative to email. However, there are ways to promote your Facebook page to generate new customers.

I love it > especially the webcam porn ads I keep finding, they are great for kids to click on & probably my fav thing about it actually

and that is what you call sarcasm BTW

Facebook helps in getting more traffic for your website. Another advantage is that you can reach your potential customer more easily compared to Google.

It really boils down to the nature of your business and how you market it. I always fall back to basics. For example, if a site I own requires a login, at a minimum I make sure I have Facebook integration, if for no other reason than to make it easier for potential customers to sign up.

I personally have never had great success with Facebook fan pages, but I make them anyhow.

Yes definitely, facebook and twitter are the big platforms to increase your business. Nowadays people are more engaged with these two social networking sites. If you want to increase your website traffic and sale as well then make your self social with the help of facebook and twitter. :)

It is easy to see the social network as another marketing channel. However, there is the "other side" - negative feedback: You have to follow any conversation about your business. Only in this way you will be able to resolve customer dissatisfaction with your goods / services long before the negative feedback will reach hundreds of people (depending on who wrote the review). If you do not do this a small mistake can become a huge problem.
Social networks encourage slightly different, creative thinking. If we can properly "join" - it can put us ahead of the competition.

Facebook ads absolutely can have a positive impact on your business if done properly.

For some large examples, there are major brands that have run highly successful viral campaigns using Facebook. An easy way to get these campaigns launched is by buying Facebook traffic that leads back to your Facebook page related to the campaign.

You can also use it on a smaller scale to generate initial interest in your business. This can actually be used to test your business idea before even launching. Build a test landing page that redirects to a "Coming Soon" page on signup. Then direct cheap Facebook clicks there (highly targeted). This can give you an idea of whether your business has legs.

Many ways to use Facebook, it's all about your own creativity and knowledge of what's possible. Check out my signature below to see a case study that will be going into specific Facebook strategies.

Of cource depends on what your niche. But for any business need:
    - quick feedback from customers
    - possible quick and cheap starting some contests
    - sending social signals to Google

I think Twitter is best for it.
