    My webmaster tool shows facebook links as external back links. Do they carry any weightage to google seo? Are follow or no-follow links?

    yes but only if google can access the link on a public page - meaning if it`s on a page that you dont need to sign in to veiw the content

    I agree. Yesterday I tried to look some things up on facebook and have seen that FB pages are good rankers on SERPS. Hope this helps. :)

    Links from FaceBook are perceived as signals by GoogleBot. No-one knows how valuable they and there were a lot of articles written on this topic. Bottom-line - they matter.

    Most Facebook links I've seen have the nofollow tag on them. In that sense they are more or less worthless for pagerank etc. However, google does try to determine popularity of links on Facebook and use them for SERPs so if you have a fairly popular link (ie one that has been liked alot) then you are a good boost in your rankings. So yes the link is helpful, just not in the traditional sense.

    Links from facebook are more usefull for obtaining direct visitors to your site. These visitors may tell their freinds about your site and they may link to you from their personal blog/website. Apart from this I doubt they carry much seo benefit as many links will be on private page and be no-follow.

    well according to lynda.com latest SEO training tutorial it say that most of the social networking website use nofollow attribute for there links, so according to that i dont think so that these links contain any worth

    Yes, Agree.. For backlink purpose it will not be that much helpful. But if you are looking for promoting brands, services or products FB is very much useful.. You can put your updates in it be it any discount on any products or for new launched services. :)
