Does duplicate content on similar pages of same website hurt ranking?

Also does the <META NAME="ROBOTS" CONTENT="NOODP"> hurt rankings? >>This directs all search engines that support the meta tag not to use ODP information for the page's description, use the following:

One of the pages with duplicate content will probably not be ranked as high, but that's not a big hit.

As for the NOODP tag, check out this post by Matt Cutts on his blog.
    mattcutts.com/blog/google-supports-meta-noodp-tag/

If he uses it for his site, and he works for Google, then I'm sure you could use it for yours as well :) .

So by having say 10 pages with the same content will not hurt my main index page?

10 pages all from the same webhost that have the same content will probably hurt, but say 1 page that has maybe half of the other pages content won't. If it isn't "natural", Google won't like it.

Would it be better for me to make the other 9 pages invisible to google?

Also by removing NOODP tag will my website definatly list as in DMOZ?

The duplicate text is on my individual 'order forms'. Shall I make the robots text not crawl these pages?

They are SEO'd and used to bring in good traffic. Because they are 'order forms' some page content needs to be the same.

The content is however unique to my website.

Does that mean I shouldn't have multiple domain names pointed to the same IP address? (e.g. find-a-widget.com and widget-finders.com both pointing to the IP for widgets-r-us.com)

    So should I read this:

"Don't create multiple pages, subdomains, or domains with substantially duplicate content.

    Like this:

"Don't create multiple pages with substantially duplicate content."

    Also:

What if the pages are essential for my website - shall I use the robots 'no follow' to stop Google seeing these pages (or will it still see them?).

Also how much do you have to change a page before it is regarded as different?

    Thanks all!

Yes, my website is surpressed (not banned), is this due to duplicate content pages do you think?
