in short, not exactly, Obviously it requires specifics however there shouldn't be an issue with any descent host now and their ability to host drupal.

There are no special hosting requirements other than PHP and MySql. Variations in speed can be expected to some degree on shared hosting plans. Heavier traffic on other sites can to some degree affect the speed of your site. That's the nature of shared hosting.

Your hosting requirement depends on the functionality and modules used in your website.

Shared hosting gives very little memory and many websites will just crash with memory error.

I built a Drupal website for a client last week. First he told me to install at hostgator. The website ran but very slowly compared to any of my VPS servers. The website ran ok for visitors and client but would crash if I tried to do any development like Views, and I could not make any admin setting changes. Because of other problems he changed to ipage and the website situation was the same. Finally he moved to a VPS and the site runs fast and stable. With the new splash page the site won't even load at all on the ipage shared account, runs great on the VPS.

The point is you really want to get a VPS with 1gb ram for any serious Drupal website. If you will have many visitors or several websites get even more, that way you can setup sufficient memory for the website.

I can remember 3 things. SQL, PHP, and do not forget that you also need safe mode off.
