Agreed with that point keyword base domain help to get ranking but it's must?? I don't think so I can show you as much as many websites which are listing good on SERPS and there domain name is not keyword base domain.

Look dear if you are promoting only one keyword then keyword base domain help much to get ranking on SERPS if you are targeting many keywords then it's worth.

For example I have mobile sites and want to promote my sites on every mobile like Nokia mobile, LG mobile, apple mobile etc etc. Then I can't take that kind of domain http://www.getonlineapplemobile.com. and the other hand if I'm targeting only one keyword like unsecured loans and i just want to rank on that keyword then I can take http://www.unsecuredloans.co.uk this domain and it's defiantly help to get ranking fast.

Having your keyword in the domain name is pretty important to me. If you want to sell widgets, you would definitely get some help on your SERPs by having it in your domain name. isellwidgetstou.com is an example.

I see some repeating the "age" of domain mantra. The thing is that the age of domain counts only when the domain has actually been indexed, not just the date of first registration. Also you always need to find out if there are any backlinks still pointing to it and of course that it has at least your most important keyword you are targeting in the name.

I've seen newly registered domains outperform "aged" domains in a 6 month head to head plenty of times. Unless of course the aged domain had over 10.000 relevant backlinks with many PR5 and over sites linking to it. Buying such a domain is usually extreeeeemly expensive and you might get away cheaper by just paying a top 50 professional SEO to build the following for you.

Then again I'm the one who likes to build from scratch rather than pay extortion for ready-made.

    Cheers and good luck.

If what you all say is true then tell me why flickr.com and picoodle.com rank TOP for "Photo Sharing"? eh?

For a techy affiliate site what is better: mp3-player-buy-please.com or blarp.com? If you are making a site for people (not for bots) pick a domain name that people can actually remember and pass on via word of mouth!!!

yes it does make influence ...
for example ... if you will have a wallpapers site it is wise to have the word "wallpapers" in your domain name :)

but in the very end, it is only the quality of your website that matters ... you can do good even with a non related domain name :)

it will make your life lot easier to have a keyword rich domain. KW rich domains ranks lot higher quickly than non KW rich domains. not that you cannot get away without having the KW in yuor domains and i have seen plenty of sites ranking high without having KW in the domain, but you will just have to work lot harder and will have to get lot more backlinks

If you keyword is in the domain name it can improve your ranking but not always, sometimes it´s enought if you create a subdirectory or subdomains with your keyword.

I think domain age and content related to that domain is more important than domain name if you are buying an old domain. However, if you are buying a new domain - it will take long for an article to show up in 1st page - where a 2/3 years old domain may just come up in 30 mins.

My personal experience is : Domain Name is more important to MSN and Yahoo! but Domain Age is important to Google.

I tend to lean toward the idea that the domain name you choose, more than anything, is a part of advertising. Hell yeah it works for search engines but theres a lot of sites that have names like MOG and they still get tones of traffic. I think instead of have a domain name like free-addictive-online-flash-games.com is SEO friendly but hard to remember. It's better to pick a short name that someone will remember and come back to.

The major benefit of having keywords in your domain name isn't for the search engine algorithms. It comes from other people who link back to your site and use your domain name as the anchor text. For example, if you have www.mycooldomain.com you'll get a lot unrequested links with the anchor text of "My Cool Domain". Event though the domain name isn't an extremely important factor in the rankings the anchor text of inbound links is.

In that case, a major keyword or keyphrase is always the most effective. If you look at major companies, they pick some pretty interesting domain names for sales, tag lines etc.
