Yeah !! domain name have importance in SEO. A domain name on your keyword will rank well without much efforts.
My domain name is not an exact match for my target keywords. My competitor bought a domain name that is an exact match for a keyword phrase (with a hyphen). Both sites are approximately the same age. Having assessed their backlinks, I reckon that I have stronger backlinks for a particular phrase yet they still outrank me by two places in the SERPs for this particular keyphrase. We have, however, swapped places a couple of times in the SERPs. There may be a number of factors why they rank above me, but I think that their exact match for a particular keyphrase gives them a boost that requires me to put in extra effort with my backlinks for that phrase. The extra effort is fairly significant because from what I can see, they aren't really serious about continually building new links. Interestingly, they are three places behind me in the caffeine results, which seem to favour the sites in my niche that have developed strong backlinks and gives less weight to sites with exact domain name matches.
Yes Domain effect SEO, for instance if you want to promote an "xyz" keyword on a "xy" domain then its is quite easy. on the other hand promoting an "xyz" keyword on"abc" domain is a difficult task indeed
